Prabowo Camp: Indosat Buyback Important for Frequency Sovereignty

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The narrative to buyback Indosat, as promised by vice presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno, is seen as a positive discourse by their campaign team. The camp also claims that the corporate act would be a profitable one.

"Indosat buyback is also important as a form of frequency sovereignty," the Prabowo-Sandiaga campaign team spokesman Haryadin Mahardika said on Tuesday, March 26.

Sandiaga had said that his plan to re-purchase Indosat is a step in supporting the single identification number (SIN) program through the e-ID card. To make the program a success, he said, Indonesia must have control over data first.

For the record, in Q4/2018 Indosat's revenue grew 11.78 percent from the previous quarter. However, for the entire year of 2018, the company's revenue declined and it posted a loss of Rp2.4tn, a major drawback from 2017's profit record of Rp1.13tn.
